ERP consultants are basically experts who can provide a number of information related to ERP to an organization. An organization can prevent wastages on trial and error methods if it hires consultants to take care of implementation. An expert is aware of various business processes and knows the requirement of each level of implementation. He/she can guide properly how to initiate the process of system implementation and how to end it on time.

The job of an ERP consultant is very important during the process and even after the completion of implementation; an expert can solve a number of issues which cannot be provided by certain technically proficient people.

An expert in ERP should be aware of many things and some of the common things are -
Know the features of packages: He /she should know the basic features of various ERP packages and also know the disadvantages of a package. Software vendors claim their product is the best but a consultant can tell which is better than other and which can suit the requirements of an organization.

Know each step of implementation: Each phase of implementation should be planned and analyzed by the consultant, who should be in a position to guarantee the success of the software implementation procedure. He /she should be able to administer processes and help to motivate the team during implementation procedure. The job of an expert is to ensure success at each level of implementation and also complete the project in due time in the given resources.



Functionalities of ERP: He/she should be aware of the basic functionalities of the software. The basics functionalities include the number of modules, its integration to other modules and the links between various modules, architecture, business process, flow of modules etc. A consultant can tell about the workflow which means - Which entries to be made earlier that other modules or how to start using software etc.

Solve errors in software functionalities: In case of any error in any report or form, an expert can immediately tell where to look to trace the error.

Database functioning and queries: He/she should be aware of some simple data base functionalities and queries which can help to find unique information from the company's database and use it to help the organization to use the software properly.

Reporting tools and data integration: Generally, experts in ERP are aware of basic database functionalities and queries which help them to provide easy service to buyer. An expert consultant can see the relationship between various modules and functionalities of software by using a query and even find out the cause of inconsistencies in reports.

Maintain technical documentation: One of the jobs is to design the technical documentations and maintain the help files. For designing help, one requires a person who is aware of business functionalities and processes. Since consultants are aware of the links between various products and modules - he/she can provide the help files and also provide other information related to the software in a non-technical way.
